Volcan Tajumulco Overnight

Volcan Taumulco is a moderate to difficult overnight hike climbing from 3,000m at the trailhead to the peak at 4,220m (almost 14,000ft) the highest point in Central America. From the top of Tajumulco there are panoramic views of the western highland, the Pacific coast and Mexico. We leave from our office at 6am and take public transportation to the trailhead. 

From there we hike for approximately 4hours and set up camp in a sheltered bowl 45 minutes from the summit.  We have dinner around a campfire and watch the sunset.  In the morning we climb to the top before dawn to see an amazing sunrise.  After breakfast we pack up and descend for the bus ride back to Xela.

Level: Moderate-Difficult
Includes: Public roundtrip transportation, entrance fee, 3 meals, equipment and guide
Bring: large backpack, hiking boots or sneakers, flashlight, sunscreen, 4 liters of water, camera and warm jacket and hat

Volcan Tajumulco- Full Moon Hike

We pick you up at your hotel or host family at 10:30pm drive 2 ½ hours and climb to the top of Volcan Tajumulco under the light of the full moon and reach the summit in time to see a spectacular sunrise over the volcanoes of the western highlands.  Return to Xela by 1pm.

Level: Difficult
Includes: Private roundtrip transportation and guide
Bring: 2 liters of water, bag lunch, hiking boots or sneakers, flashlight, sunscreen, camera and warm jacket and hat.
Note: Can be done any night, not only during the full moon.

Volcan Taumulco is a moderate to difficult day hike climbing from 3,000m at the trailhead to the peak at 4,220m (almost 14,000ft) the highest point in Central America. From the top of Tajumulco there are panoramic views of the western highland, the Pacific coast and Mexico.

We pick you up at your hotel or host family at 4:00am and drive 2 ½ hours to the trail head.  From there it takes approximately 4 hours to climb to the top and 3 hours to descend.

Level: Moderate-Difficult (can also be done as an overnight trip)
Includes: Private roundtrip transportation, entrance fee and guide
Bring: 2 liters of water, bag lunch, hiking boots or sneakers, sunscreen, camera and jacket
